New York By Rail Whistle Stops in Port Jervis

November 14, 2019 - Port Jervis, NY - One of the great pleasures of serving as Orange County Legislator for the 13th District is the opportunity to showcase and share the great people, businesses, and places here in Western Orange County. Such a chance took place recently with the help of Orange County Tourism Director Amanda Dana.

On a near perfect fall day, Faggione and Dana welcomed Andrew Frey, reporter from New York By Trail to meet in Port Jervis. New York by Trail is the official Amtrak® travel guide offering rail riders detailed source of information on places to visit and things to do in the northeast. The trio was joined by Orange County Tourism Coordinator Stephanie Kistner and Port Jervis Director of Parks and Recreation John Faggione.

Port Jervis boasts some of the best hiking and mountain biking trails in the entire northeast. No better way to explore them than to be led by Outdoor Club of Port Jervis President Mike Ward. Ward knows the trails like the back of his hand. He and his all volunteer group have hand-built 45 miles of trail in the Port Jervis watershed. Ward led the group on what some would call a quick and easy hike……
