Orange County to Expand Junior Hunting License Opportunities
County to allow youth aged 12-13 to hunt big game with firearms under the supervision of an experienced adult hunter
May 6, 2021 - Goshen, N.Y. – The Orange County Legislature voted in favor of a local law that will allow 12-and 13-year-old youth to hunt deer with a firearm or crossbow under the direct supervision of an experienced adult hunter.
Under New York State Environmental Conservation Law Section 11-0935, upstate Counties have the option of expanding junior hunting licenses for this age group.
Legislator Paul Ruszkiewicz and Tom Faggione brought this measure to the legislature for approval.
“As an avid hunter who has had the experience of mentoring my son as a youth hunter I am proud to be a sponsor of this local law,” said Ruszkiewicz. “This is an excellent opportunity to introduce young people to hunting.”
“Teaching young people safe and responsible hunting practices is a rite of passage for many families in our communities,” Faggione said. “I am proud to sponsor this County Law.”
The passage of this local law permits Orange County to join fellow upstate counties in allowing expanding outdoor opportunities for junior hunters.
